Marine Phantoms work in progress...

Finally some non-Trek related artwork! YAY! A pair of F-4J Phantom II sporting Marine Corps livery are flying in formation. The hardest part as always those contrails and exhausts. I have to go do some research about how the exhaust actually looks but so far so good. This is the first of several planned Marine Phantom art because I really like the Phantom. Comments are always welcome!

Monkeying around with Trek parts again....

So back to some concept ships for my own enjoyment. I am thinking about shrinking those nacelles down by at least 50% so that the ship doesn't look so off balance to me. Now back to some aviation artwork that has been languishing in Photoshop.

A near future parts kit up..

After finishing up that Constitution parts kit I wanted a break from all things Trek at least for now. I obtained the artist's permission and began making a PSD file of all his near future parts that I had downloaded to date. Although starting small, this project has rapidly grown until the file itself is rather large. In this file you will everything needed to create your own reality-based ships and stations much like the ISS. There are cargo modules, solar panels, fusion reactors, CIWS guns, missile launchers, complete rocket kits, and many more things. Have fun! Find it here!

TOS Constitution parts it in PSD format up

The original idea was to create a single PSD file from Trebuche TOS parts but it was quickly changed when i realized just how many canon variants of the original Constitution class there were. And while Trebuche relesed four seperate PDF files covering all the varients, the PSD was relatively easy to put together. The final incarnation below shows the parts layout for the Constitution as she appeared during the three year run of the original Star Trek series.

One new swatch up..this time the Enterprise D as she was meant to be colored

A new swatch is now released with kind permission of Mr. Andrew Probert, the fellow that did the original color design of the Enterprise D form Star Trek: The Next Generation. He had always intended that the Big D have a color similar to Kirk's original Enterprise (no bloody A, B, C, D, or E) but the ship was discolored during the photography process of the show. You can find more info here.

And also the TNG hull color swatch also gets a small update with the borrowing of the "Warp Glow" color from the Probert swatch.

USAF specific swatches

I was going to wait until later but the bug has bitten. Time to release US Air force specific swatches. The Hill AFB color swatch reflects the current color scheme for all USAF F-16 Fighting Falcons. The A-10 is next with a three-color scheme that remains in use on my all time favorite jet.

Next is the venerable F-15C. Thus plane has seen long service and appears headed to even further time flying. Aside from the A-10 and the F-16, this jet is one of my favorites.

So later will upload the other ones as they are finished. Some just need screenshots taken and then posted. More later.

Fun with Terragen

Some fun with Terragen, a program used to generate terrain models and so forth. Really a simple easy to learn program that is only unlocked once you master the absurdly simple basics. The layout is intuitive and very easy to learn. You can create your first terrain in just a few minutes, about the same time as it takes some of us to get connected to the web and check our emails.

The Merge

The merge, in pilot speak, is the point where two fighter planes pass one another head-on at the beginning of a dogfight. I am not entirely convinced that I am going to use the P-38 at this point but I will see how things look with other aircraft...

At least no contrails!!!!!

The bombers boys are headed home, with one limping along. This has got to be one of the most ambitious and aggravating images that I have ever done. Those fraking contrails were nearly the end of my patience and my wits! Doing the engine fire effects were easy compared to those accursed contrails.

Swallows in the Clouds

The ME-262, the first jet to see active combat over the contested skies of Europe in the closing days of WW2. The British Meteor jet was the second to see combat but the Schwalbe (Swallow) was a deeply disturbing shock to Allied aircrew when it first appeared over Europe, defending German airspace in hopeless yet spirited actions.

These pictures were downloaded from the USMC site. The Dark Places requires some explanation since you are probably wondering how the hell I managed to do night vision in Photoshop. It is a filter that I downloaded and installed in PS7. It allows you to modify pictures to look like they were taken through NVG goggles. These pictures are being uploaded after several loud requests by my Marines who loudly and sometime profanely demanded where the hell were all the USMC stuff that I have been doing. So here is some with more to come! Semper Fi, Carry On!

More Air Force stuff

These images run the gamut of my early works (bottom most) and some more recent stuff (top most). These works required not only quite alot of permissions but also the dance between Illustrator and Photoshop. My favourite is the one called Glacier Girl which is the P38 that was found amongst other aircraft on a Greenland glacier where it had crashed in 1942. More to come, look out for a Raptor and P51 collage in the works!

This poster has gone through more changes than even the soldier who originally requested it. The first incarnation was met with delighted reviews from the civilians but much derision by the serving soldiers because you could not see the faces of the servicemen. Enter the US Army web page and their superb collection of photos that are perfectly legal for one to use.That second poster has graced the walls of the National Guard office on Cavalry Drive in Raleigh NC until I came across the third photo which required moving the text over after cropping the photo. Afterwards only a few tweaks were needed. Photoshop as always.

Some Trek stuff that I have done since getting Photoshop and Starfleet Command. All images that I have uploaded will have full credits especially the scifi stuff. The ship called Eliezer carries the name of my beloved little human Eliezer Emmanuel. All models are from Starfleet Command and all effects are either Photoshop or Illustrator.The quote "To live and die in starlight" comes from Babylon5: Legend of the Rangers.
